Have you been struggling with dry, chapped, or cracked lips? Believe me, I feel your pain! I try to keep my lips moisturized. I drink tons of water, and I still find it difficult to achieve those plump, soft lips that everyone loves! But look no further! I’ve done some research, and a little bit of trial and error, and I have found a super simple DIY lip scrub. And, I’m like 99% sure you have everything you need right in your kitchen cabinet.
So What Do Lip Scrubs Do?
Lip scrubs are amazing for exfoliating our lips, getting rid of dead or dry skin, and leaving behind a smooth, soft surface. Not only do lip scrubs make your lips feel good; they help them look pink and plump too!
Why It Works
Sugar is a great natural exfoliant that encourages cell turnover. Honey is an antiseptic with natural healing properties. Lemon juice is a natural bleaching agent. Olive oil and Coconut oil contain vitamin E which is a natural conditioner and antioxidant. They contain regenerative powers to assist in the healing of the skin. Together, the ingredients form the perfect lip scrub to remove dead skin and have your lips feeling and looking beautiful! Oh, and this one tastes SO yummy!
What You’ll Need
2 tablespoons of sugar (Sugar in the Raw works best for this scrub)
1 tablespoon of honey
½ teaspoon of olive or coconut oil
a few drops of lemon juice
1 small jar for storing (I got this one from Target)
How to Make:
In a small mixing bowl, combine the ingredients together until the mixture is smooth and thick. Scoop the scrub into a small jar of your choice. The end result should look like the picture at the top. Super easy right?!
How to Use:
STEP 1. Use your finger or a toothbrush to scoop a small amount of lip scrub from the jar and apply to your lips
STEP 2. Rub lips in a circular motion for about 60 seconds
STEP 3. Rinse the scrub off your lips with warm water and pat dry with a towel
**Do not over-exfoliate your lips. Only use lip scrub 1-3 times a week.**
How to Store:
You should store your lip scrub in a dry, room temperature area. I keep mine in the medicine cabinet. Your homemade lip scrub can last up to 6 months!
Use this DIY lip scrub before applying lipstick for a smoother application and incredible makeup look.
